piston ring 2.2S
 
hi ,

I have 2.2 S piston . I measured the clearancebetween the top of the piston groove and the fire ring (n°1) .
Normally (following the wayne'book ) the normal clearance is between 0.05 mm and 0.1 mm . I have an average clearance (with my old rings ) of 0.14 mm .

Then I have some questions :
* do you think with brand new rings this clearance can be less than 0.1 mm ?

* I want to avoid changing my piston . if I use standard rings , Do you think I will have problem of low compression and so on ?

*Is there any solution you have experienced like using new rings a bit thicker than standard one to decrease the gap ?

Another option
 
We can recut the top ring groove ( for that matter any ring groove) to fit a slightly larger ring. We have been doing it for years and as we see it there is no down side to this process.

thanks for your answer.
The question is : if i must use other kind of rings , what are they ? which one do you advice me (reference for example or dimension) ? what are the new dimensions groove to suit with these rings ?

If you regroove the piston , what ring must i use ? and which size ? is there a standard ring in a catalog (like total seal or deves ) ?
who have done this ?

With a ring diameter of 84 mm and an original width of 1.5 mm , is there any ring dimension of 84 mm and 1.6 mm wide for example ?
If yes must I keep the same shape because there is so much different shape (rectangular , cut ...and so on ) ?

Is an increase of this width (for example 1.5 to 1.75 mm or 1.6 mm) can be a source of problem in terms of too high friction with the cylinder and then a loose of power ?
