OK to stick cam housing in dishwasher?

After using many cans of carb cleaner and lots of scrubbing, I can't get my 3.6 cam housing to a point where it is really clean.

Is it okay to soak the housing in soap or degreaser and water? Or even stick it in the dishwasher?

My concern is water in the oil spray bar.

thanks,
anthony

Hell yes,...stick it in the dishwasher and crank up that hot water heater for the job.

As long as your significant other (if you have one) isn't around, go for it.

Give it a good soaking in something like Castrol degreaser and then do the deed,...... When you are finished, blast all the water off with compressed air and make sure the spray bar orifices are clear.

Thanks Steve. It's just me by myself in my apartment.

Right now, I got the bumper under the dining room table, cam housing on top of the stove, several piston/cylinder on top of the coffee table.

Guess the cam housing goes in the dishwasher next.

Errrr..........not unless you're trying to poison everyone downstream.........

There's really nothing poisonous in oil or degreaser. I would not use powdered detergent, however. After you do it, run the dishwasher again, empty and hot, with lots of detergent before you do dishes.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

The parts cleaner at your local shop is a super-sized dishwasher using a water based detergent. I've done it with excellent results. Use the pot-scrubber cycle for best results!

But I think there is something poisonous in motor oil and engine degreaser.

Don't do it.

Get a $6 cement mixing tub at a home improvment store, put the parts in it and spray degreaser on them. Take it to the car wash and pressure blast them off. Works great! Those places are required to have systems to catch pollution.

I cleaned mine as much as I can using carb cleaners and a brush. Wiped it down with alcohol and remove dirt/oil as much as I can. Then stick it in the dishwasher using soap to clean it again as a final cleaning step. The dish washer is okay.
