What next?

I run a 1974 Rest of World/European, 2.7 Carrera with MFI (i.e. 210 bhp)

When purchased it was very out of tune. Splitting and crackling on acceleration and deceleration. Timing, dwell, correlation were all well out of the normal ranges (e.g. the MFI rod linkage to throttle crossbar was set @ 119mm rather than factory spec 114mm!)

Since then……….
Two well respected independent garages
• “Ten Demandments” again, again and again!

Despite this it continues to
• Running very smooth at idle and early acceleration, then between 2-3000 rpm starts missing, better over 3500 but still missing/stuttering up to redline.
• Runs fine at startup and when cold, soon gets misfire on acceleration and overrun – which continues even when fully warmed up.
• Dry fouling spark plugs

So far
• “Ten Demandments” again, again and again!
• Thermostat checked and working
• MFI pump inspected and internal linkages appear to be working
• MFI unit and timing have been checked. MFI unit underwent full rebuild 1995
• MFI has been leaned off with no real effect on black smoke or misfire!
• Injectors have been ultrasonically cleaned
• New Air inlet gaskets fitted – non present before!
• New distributor cap and rotor
• New HT leads and spark plug connectors
• Spark Plugs changed to hotter spark plugs i.e. from B8ES to B6ES (gap = 0.7mm)
• Correlation and idle checked as per Lee Rice’s article

What next. The latest independent suggests I either live with it or send pump away for recalibration! Or just rebiuld the lot!!

Ideas anyone, please?
