Question Cam regrind ??

Hi all,

do you need to harden the cams after a regrind ?? 1 of my lobes was worn 1/4" and had to be rebuilt, couple of other had pitting on the lobes

Porsche 911 cams are chill cast. The factory hardness goes deep enough to regrind and remove the normal pitting. The lobe worn 1/4 inch would have to be welded. The common welding material finishes at 58rc hardness. very close to the factory spec.
No additional heat treat is required.

Don't forget to have the cam followers resurfaced or you will be regringing cams very soon.
