INJ. Pump Belt Woes HELP!!!!!!!!

I'am in the process of trying to install my MFI pump belt, the belt's all seem too short. I've broken 2 new belts trying to roll them on at the cam gear end. Anyone have any advice?? It dosn't sem to me it should be this difficult!! Yes the pump mounting nuts are loose and the pump is as far over as it will go. the engine is out on a engine stand.

Thanks
cosmo

that's what happens when you try to roll them on, without taking one of the gears off first.

Really? I've never had to take a gear off. I don't "roll" the belt on, I put it on one of the gears and then kind of angle it onto the other gear. But John is the man and if you have broken two belts I would go with what he says.

I don't see how I will be able to get the gear back on?? I'ts a good 1/4" too short, but I'll give it a try. I just bought the last belt in Houston so I hope I don't break this one.
John,if you could elaborate on your proceedure I would be greatful.
Thanks

i've broken a few in the past, trying to do it that way. some actually do go on ok. the pump is pushed/pryed over to the left all the way? take off one of the gears, hang the belt over it, and put the gear back on the shaft. when properly tensioned, the belt should not be tight. you should be able to twist the belt with minor effort, about 90°, in the middle, between the gears.

My belt wasn't tight either. Please post a pic showing your pump and the gears. Maybe something else is going on.

If the belt is loose how do you tighten it?
