Camshaft choice for turbo 2.7 with EFI
Anybody have recomendations for camshafts in my motor? It will be a 2.7 turbo, with EFI. Undecided on pistons, may use the stock CIS, as motor only has 85k on it. Street/track use, weekends etc; not a daily driver.

2.7 liter engines aren’t usually used as basis for turbos. Most came with 8.0 or 8.5 compression ratios, which is pretty high without a knock sensor so timing will be crucial. Factory 911 3.0 liter tubos from the same era were 6.5 and 7.0 cr and used stronger cases. Though EFI might support bigger profiles, I believe your piston crowns will limit your cam selection to not much more than the stock CIS grinds. I’m pretty sure this is also what the factory used. Do a search on CIS cam upgrades and you will see what I mean. Usually, the 964 profile is as radical as you can go with stock pistons.
A 2.7 would not be my first choice for a turbo upgrade. |

I agree that 2.7's aren't usually used for tubo apps; but it's what I have. 8.5 comp should be fine with EFI. I was thinking about the 964 grind also.

that is great for boost under 1bar...

I would ask camgrinder what he could do on a custom cam basis. His pricing is the best around along with his experience with the fastest in the Porsche world

IF you keep the boost under 1bar, the SC profile would be a nice choice. The SC will clear the pistons, it fits the 2.7 cam core nicely.
If you increase the boost and lower the compression ratio, the 964 profile will work. The 964 profile will require new billets.

John, I was looking to run about .6bar, 9pounds; what would it cost to grind onto my 2.7's? PM me
