Without external cooling you are limiting the possibilities greatly. I had some radical thoughts but those require some nice coolers to keep things in check.... That's the subject of another conversation, perhaps for that 71 E PCA racer :D
In your shoes, I'd opt to get some Nickies due to the improved heat management (material, extra fins, ...) and perhaps consider overdriving the fan (knowing that there is a possibility of cavitation). I'd also consider some of Sherwood's heat barriers (anything to keep heat away from the engine) and perhaps some creative use of underbody airflow. In this app. I think squirters would not be a must but would be nice and can't hurt). |
Please, don't stop.

John,
Remember, the fan ratio can negate the necessity for a front cooler on a “small” engine and you can change back & forth fans & pulleys without removing the engine. I have 1.82:1 on my 2.0 and 2.8S (of course the 2.8S needs the Rubbermaid Solution for track.) Best, Grady |
The engine that I put in my 914 has a 2.4L crank with the 87.5 mm pistons with the Nickes. It has 46-40 valves with 36mm ports. GE 40 cams. I have 10 to 1 comp. I have not finished tuning it yet but is making 170whp and 160wtq at 5800 rpm. I have not dynoed it past that yet. I also do not have the 36mm manifolds for the carbs yet. Still looking for some. I hope to see almost 200 hp at the wheels when all is said and done.

Spray water from a tupperware tub onto the cylinder heads or into the fan.

Have anyone tried Cheap Cylinder/piston sets?
Hi ,
I am Restoring a 68 911, The body has been lengthened to 69 spec, and is near all complete. I’m now turning my focus to the engine. I have a 2.2 t all in tact that has been running but is need of a ring and valve refresh. I also have a 2.4E that was rebuilt several years back but the previous owner let water get into a cylinder which cracked one cylinder. My question is has anyone used those cheap cylinder/pistion set found on ebay? My preference is to have the 2.4E as my engine. I also see 2.2E cylinder/pistons sets for sale will these work? I appreciate your reply |
