I stopped by my local Porsche dealer this morning to order some parts that I don't see at Pelican. While there I was able to get one of their Master Technicians to look at my cam shafts and a few of the rocker arms. One lobe had a pit in it near the edge. He said that it looked like an original imperfection and that the cams were not worn much and he wouldn't replace them.
I have kept the rocker arms in order and he said at most he would get the bushings replaced. He recommended a local machine shop to cut my valve seats and some other usual tasks including the bushing replacement. The parts man could not find a number for the bushings alone. I looked again on Pelican Web site for the bushing and find that you sell the complete rocker with the bushing. I looked in Waynes book and found the part number both on page 64 and on page 217 with the parts listings. I called the dealer back and was told that this part number was no go. The part number in Waynes book is 901.105.043.98 Could there be a typo? Anyone know a number that will work or where I can order the bushings? ![]() |

That number does not come up on PET.
I had my rocker arms re-bushed by Walt at Competition Engineering. Maybe he can help you.

Yes it seems Walt is one of the few people around who will rebush rocker arms. He is redoing mine now. If you can measure your shaft OD's and rocker ID's (in two places) 0.003" tolerance is acceptable.

Redline did mine some years ago. Actually, they added bronze bushings to my early rockers which are bushing-less from the factory. Check with them as well.

Thanks for the reply.
Is there a link for Redline? What I am really looking for is the bushings. Does anyone have a source for the bushing only. I have a great machine shop that can install them. I will be reusing my camshafts and don't want or need the face of the arms reground.

I don't have a contact for Redline (do a search on Google).
As for non-existent factory rocker bushings, check with all up all the usual sources (Stoddard?), then call any well-stocked bearing house. They can probably come up with some generic bronze bushings your machine shop can resize to fit. Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars BTW, if you're not going to reface the rockers, try to ID them so they reinstall with the same cam lobe. Any help with the ususal suspects would be appreciated.
Wayne, Is there possibly a typo on the part number in your book. I was hoping Pelican might sell these or have a source?

I had Ollie's rebuild my rocker arms, which included new bushings and grinding the cam contact area. I think I paid $12 a arm.

No typo, as far as I can tell. That part number, I believe has been discontinued a long time ago.
![]() Anyone else find a good replacement (aftermarket or general) source for these bushings? -Wayne

If you have no luck, I can make you some bushings, and get them a helluva lot closer than .003.

Or put in the differential of a 700 hp race car and pound the living daylights out of for the rest of its life
![]() I figured that when I meet the right woman, I will save the money on a rock and chuck up a peice of bar stock and turn her out something pretty bi tchin instead. Maybe she will wear it when she smacks me across the face for trying to skate on buying her a real ring. |

If I had the cam, holding it in my hand an it had a pit in it, I'd have it fixed, regardless where the pit came from or if it was on the edge or not. A side benefit would be the perfect chance to up the grind a bit, and get some extra umph. Get the rocker arms redone completely and start fresh. Nothing worse than putting something together that has known flaws. At least for me it is.
Just my two cents. Cheers, George |

(What I am really looking for is the bushings.)
You can use a Repco part with a little triming F/N-RB-4037 I believe it is a Honda small engine Gudgeon pin bushing. Best regards |

Anyone who knows what alloy to use when fabricating new bushes? I know the bushes should be press fit so I wonder what outer diameter should I use?

Any update here? Bob Whyms in Sydney says they won't re-bush rocker arms anymore as they've had some seize upon being re-bushed.
Anyone in Sydney successfully have their rocker arms rebushed? I guess I may just want new ones anyway since the camshafts are being reground... thanks

John, these guys do a good job. I had them do S camshafts from a pair of CIS jobbies. They can recondition the rockers. I am a bad boy though, I used my old ones, bushes were fine and I refaced them myself...

John,
Did they recondition your rockers for you?
