What should a SS3.2 cost me?
My SC motor gave up so now I've got an eye to the 3.2SS. My wish list is as follows:
JE 10.3:1 pistons New Cyls mooned GE 60 cams Shuffle pin Lighten flywheel knife edge crank polish the case keep it sgl plug on race gas open the intakes Aase springs TI retainers Anything I should add? Its a strictly track motor...it has weber 46's on top and 1 5/8" headers on the bottom. It dyno'd @ 238 RWHP in its original configuration. Any idea what it will put out in 3.2? I would also be doing the new chains, ramps, etc. I'm 10 thumbs too, so I'd have to have it built. Any guesses?

If it has later SC heads I would budget for enlarging the exhaust ports as well to accomodate the cam airflow. (just a hair, maybe a few mm)
Cost really depends on labor rates, but you could spend $10-15k without trying hard... That's assuming you are using your existing bottom end.

Thanks Chris...I'm hoping it ends up like your 3.2 in the black ride, sans the MM and twin plugging.

I don't really want to start adding up what my SS 3.2 has cost!.... I have bought many new parts which make the $$ add up. Parts alone must be around £8,000 ($15,000).
Not sure on build costs as I will be doing a lot of it myself with help from a good friend. My set up is similar to yours but I am running S grind cams. The build is happening over the next few weeks so I can take some pictures. Not sure on HP but it will be rolling road’ed (dyno) soon. Alan.UK

So I pulled the trigger on this yesterday. My mechanic had just built nearly the same motor for a car he campaigns w/ HSR West. I'm looking for a sub 1:50 @ Fontana. his car ran a 1:51xx in race conditions on 285 hoosiers w/ an IROC tail. I run 315's w/ a c/f wing...so I think it's doable. Can't wait to get it in there!!!

Wow, your 3.0 SC was making 238 rwp in it's previous config? What was the compression, camshafts, carbs, etc? That is like over 270 crankshaft hp! Pretty impressive!

I am dynoing my 3.0 SC engined race car this Tuesday. I am curious to see the HP numbers from mine. It has 10.2 compression, twin plug, RSR cams, ported 1980 heads, 46 Webers w/ tall manifolds, 1 5/8 headers on race gas.

BTW...10.2 twin plug AND race gas? My new motor will be 10.5 and SINGLE plug on race gas...am I missing something? My mech says I don't need to worry about pre-det. Should I tho?

No, I don't think twin plug is necessary with race fuel and 10.2 comp., but this I bought engined used, and I run race fuel to give it an extra safety margin. I have told it is worth a couple % hp also.
