Piston "E" stamp

HI,

I have an engine with a dubious past which I have just stripped down due to really bad performance and compression tests.

The pistons have an "E" stamped on them. 78 3.0 SC. This mistry "E" is facing the inlet.......Is this right?

At first I decided that upside down pistons was the cause of the lack of performance. I have mulled over the books that I have and accoding to the shape......raised towards the left they are in the right way up....BUT WHY THE "E"?

Thanks

Mark.....

OK......that makes sence. A quick google and Inlet translates to EINGANG or EINLASS. Good detective work!

Thanks
