SSI heat exchangers for 3.4?

During my engine rebuild I want to fit some SSI heat exchangers:- PEL-SSI-LT3.2 & PEL-SSI-RT3.2

I will also be increasing the capacity to 3.4L, are the primaries on these heat exchangers big enough to cope with this?

Has any one gone down this route?

from my personal experience SSI are fine for 3, getting too small for 3.2 and definitely too small for 3.6

All SSI have 1 3/8" primaries, I would look for 1 1/2" or maybe even 1 5/8" depends on other mods and intended use.

It depends. Probably not ideal, but I doubt that you will feel any difference in HP. Probably the only real solution if you want heat...

I gott'a have heat this is the UK!
Summer only lasts 4 days and we just had them.

Are there any other SSI style heat exchangers on the market with bigger tubing?

B&B has both 1 5/8" OD and 1 3/4" OD w/ heat that bolts on. Or since you are in the UK Hayward &Scott may be able to help you.

A word of warning, the B&B headers are fine but do have a proprietary spacing for the muffler inlets. I wouldn't use the b&B mufflers too many headaches there. Fab up a Flo-master or equivalent.

A question and a statement.

Question - Bill where did you get the heat set ups (especially the rears) Is that a B & B part.

Statement - Ben McFarland will be in receipt of a B & B muffler from me and will be making mufflers at some point for B & B headers.

Bill Verburg 07-04-2005 04:22 AM

When you order B&B headers you have several options
  • 1 5/8" or 1 3/4"
  • Carrera 3.2 heat inlets or 964 heat inlets
  • 911 heat outlets or 964 heat outlets

Mine are 1 3/4", 964 heat inlets and 911 heat outlets.

w/ that setup you use the stock 964 heat tube as pictured. I have used it on both 964 and 993 vram engines.

Great 0 thanks Bill - I have the 964 version - I'll have to look for a 964 heater cross over tube.

Bill,

Where did you buy your B&B?
I work in the US quite alot and I was going to buy them out there and carry them home.
Exchange rate is good at the moment!
