Bottom end knocking!!
My nightmare with my 85 3.2 Carrera continues..... Have had the tensioners done on the car, tappets and rockers checked. I now have a clanging noise from the bottom end my oil pressure is good and there was no debris in the oil. Before I spend a serious amount of pound notes has anyone got any ideas? The only idea that comes to mind is that you speak with a Porsche specialist/friends-remain objective- and weigh all your options carefully.
Was it making the same noise before? You have a few options. If it is done right you will have a very nice car when you are done. Good luck. Regards,

Is it knocking or clanging? Knocking is likely to be rod knock from a bad bearing. Clanging is more likely to be from a chain hitting something. Maybe the tensioners were installed wrong. A chain could be off of one edge of a sprocket (duplex chain installed on one edge instead of both). Of course these are only guesses. You probably need to take it to a shop that knows these engines to have it checked out.

Then probably rod bearing no.2 or no. 5 went bad. I would not run the car for fear of damaging the crank.

Piston slap can be very noisy but should quiet down as the engine warms up..

Any backpressure from the blowoff valve (rocker problem).
Have you opened up the oil sill plate and inspected (3.2 might not have these though). What have you done so far?

Is it RHD? Because if it is, you are in serious trouble. You should immediately pack the car in bubble-wrap, put it in a container, and send it to me.

Today, pull the magnetic drain plug. Is it clean? How did it look last oil change?

Try shorting out (disconnecting spark) each cylinder in turn. If a cylinder has a bad rod bearing, this will reduce knocking. If the knock still persists, it's probably not a rod bearing. it could be a main bearing or one of the others mentioned.
