Thanks, Brian |

I hesitate to post how I break down a Porsche transmission.. you know the purists jump in With a lil imagination, you can break down a box with tools you already have

With the bottom cover removed, put it in 3rd gear (?) and 5th at the same time to lock it in place.

Trying to strip it down for rebuild. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

This should get you started:
Remove the cover at the bottom of the transmission. Check the fulcrum that is bolted to the cover for looseness. If the studs are loose in the cover, replace the whole cover with a good used one. I suppose you could Timesert the loose studs in an emergency but I haven't tried it. To hold the shafts in place so you can remove the nuts, lock the transmission in two gears at once. I put it in 2nd gear by tapping the end of the 1st/2nd shifter rod (circled) with a rubber mallet. To engage 5th gear, push the 5th/reverse gear operating sleeve so it engages 5th (big arrow). ![]() -Chris
