2.0 Chain Tensioners

I'm including a photo of my 65 2.0 chain tensioners. They look unlike what I've seen so far. Obviously the clamps to keep them from failing won't work on these. Are these stock? I'd like to take them apart and clean them. I don't see any clips or bolts, how do I open them? Thanks.

Those have been converted to a solid tensioner and you adjust them by loosening the lock nut and screwing the bolt in or out. I've never seen one converted like that and I wouldn't use them since you'd have to check and adjust occasionally. Racer's use those more often than a street car. They typically have the motor's apart quite often and can make adjustments whenever necessary.

I went with some used non-carerra type (with the 930 part number) and rebuilt them with pelican's kit and added safety collars. The 930 part number tensioners also work with the newer style idler arms.

Lots of people have told me the solid tensioners are reliable and fine. Provided you have enough thread engagement that should work.

I guess it depends on your budget, how original you want your car to be, and how much you drive. The more miles you do, the more you'll be adjusting them.

Sure, they work fine! But who wants to have to keep tearing the motor apart to check/adjust them?
