Questions about 911 '72 2.2 rebuild

Hi Guys,

Noobie here and noobie to 911's as well.

Plenty of experencie with beetles though, does that count on this board?

anyway, I got offered a 1972 2.2 engine... was told it is a 6 cilinder 125bhp version with Webers.

Cost about $ 2.2K and isnt running.

Guy that is selling doesnt know whats wrong with.

I thought this could be a good base to start with and then buy myself a tub to hang it in.

Do the above figures (BHP, years, webers) match??

A 72 should have a 2.4 ltr, not a 2.2. The 2.2's were from 70-71. HP sound about right. $2K for a non-running engine is not necessarily a good deal. A set of GOOD webers can bring $900 by themselves, however.

Consider everything as needing rebuilding or replacing until proven otherwise. Like Bob said, it may not necessarily be a good deal. Search the classifieds and/or ebay to see what the going rate is for used/non-operational engines. Just recently I saw a low mileage 2.4 provided with superb leakdown and compression figures complete with webers for sale for $2500 at a swap from a reputable vendor.

Look in the 911 parts for sale, there is a good, running 2.2T motor offered there for 2100.00 with webers and upgraded tensioners, so I wouldn't hink 2200.00 for a non-functional motor is a good deal.
