Twin Plug Setup Question
OK, when I had my engine rebuilt, I had my heads twin-plugged prep'd, however, I'm only running single plug for now, until I source a good used 964/993 Distributor.
Would I need to modify the 964/993 distributor to work on my Carrera motor, or would it be a simple swap out? I know I have to run a signal splitter off the OEM inition, twin Crane HI-6 Fireball ignition systems & twin Crane LX92 coils, but is there any machining required on the twin plug distributor to make it fit/work? Advice appreciated :) |
Merv:
Its a drop-in on Motronic motors with no modifications required. :) |
You don't need to mod the distributor but I had to modify the heater ducting to make everything fit.

Heater ducting, what's that?

Thanks Steve & Chris :D
Also, what's the going rate for a good used 964/993 dizzy these days? Anyone have one lying around? |
Steve Timmons( IG) quoted me a price of 475.00 shipped, with a new belt. Dan

Merv you better make sure your turbo pipe will clear. I have a feeling you will have clearance issues here

The pre-IC charge air pipes will be re-done soon, after I install the new headers. I'll take all that into consideration
|
Gonna be pretty hard to make that clear especially with the larger pipe you will run with that "small turbo" I am sure it can be done though just wont work out of the box. For something to use on mock up you might try flexible dryer hose like material it works real nice for things like that

T70, a small Turbo? :D
Agree tho! The 4" inlet to the compressor will be a huge mutha to route around that engine bay  Thanks for the tip re:flex dryer hose. |
Have you considered the Electromotive cranktrigger ignition system? I run that setup on my race car and it was easy to set up, has been trouble free, and is almost infinitely adjustable.

Bosch rebuilt is a little more than $700, and guaranteed to work like new:

I twin plugged my 3.2 a few years ago. I got the 964 dist and replaced the belt. Thought I was good until I learned that I needed a "converter/igniter". The one I purchased was made by Andial and it cost $500 to $600. Think about that on top of the cost of the 964 distributor and it may be better to go crankfire as suggested above. |
ANOTHER OPTION:
TEST IS ON GOING BUT SO FAR SO GGOD AND WE'RE READY TO SHIP. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127325143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127325158.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127325266.jpg |
What is the price on those?
|
About $1200. They come with a new cap and rotor.
We can make them for most 911/ 930 applications. |
We're waiting on a kit similar to that one that uses the Jaguar cap and a custom rotor...

When are the ones for early cars coming online?
