in all your combined years......ever see this happen...?

at around 130mph one of the pins that holds the drivers side timing chain ramp fell out... the ones the ramp snaps too..

oil came spewing out the hole and onto the exhaust system..

i was under the impression that the pins were pressed in by the factory...

it had to be the drivers side.... after cuting off 3 nuts:

i pulled all the turbo stuff out of the way and pulled the cover hoping it was siting in the bottom of the cover..
im pulling th sump tomorrow to see if it made it down there...

maybe it fell out onto the road...

anyone ever see this happen?

Just last summerI helped a friend fix his car after one of those pressed in pins fell out somewhere on the track. We took one out of a used chainbox and fixed it and he was back at the track the next day.

uh... bolts?

im looking at two pins with notches in them that the ramp is supported by... not bolts.

"We took one out of a used chainbox and fixed it "

how do you fix pressed in pins? or am i going crazy..?

maybe this is more common then i thought... :\

Hello there.

Your mech is right , and no never known one to fall out..

I'd suspect the tensioners may not be damping the chain enough..may be failing..

Has the tensoiner arm got a bronze bush at the pivot?
If not, this also needs attention..

Kind regards
David

D'oh! Sorry I was thinking of the inboard "pins"... which are bolts and screw into the case. Never see one fail either.

Make sure your chain is in good working order there and be sure that the chain-box holes are not ovaled from when it worked it's way out. They are pressed in, then a JB-Weld like epoxy seals them from behind.
