Sweet, I just noticed I have officially become a Member, not a Junior Member. Now is that because I've posted a few times and graduated or because I bought an 89 911 for 20k, bought a few books from Wayne, and now I'm in full free fall down the slippery slope as I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild going to a 3.4 omg, omg, the money, so much money. Hey my kid doesn't need to go to college, I can teach him to wrench P-cars and make a fortune.

Wellbor

*** UPDATE ***

As of 6:30pm today (Friday 12/30/2005), the beast is back on the road.

A quick history of the delay to this contest:

Installed the new 3.6L engine. The same week, the trans decided to die.

Pulled the engine/trans and I decided to do the rebuild myself. I was a little chicken for sure.

I reviewed quite a few articles here on Pelican about how people did the job. Most made the job seem more difficult than it really is.

I proceeded to do the job myself. I replaced a ton of parts "while you're in there" just because. I specifically focused on all of the parts pertaining to 1st and 2nd gear. I didn't care if it looked good. It was replaced. No BS.

The payoff? It's the best shifting 915 I've driven to date. I am shocked at how good it shifts.

Bottom line: we are ready to rumble at the dyno.

Sorry for the delay guys... but all is good now.

I'll be on the dyno for sure next week.

PS> I'll be at TRE's Hangover Run on New Years Day. This will be my 2nd year on the run.

Based on your optimism and new tranny I will add 0.01hp to my prediction. That makes it 242.01 hp at rw.

lowyder993s 12-31-2005 02:24 PM

304.23...I just put my 3.2ss on the dyno. I'll post #'s after T's pull.

Dean924s 01-01-2006 03:24 PM

Ok after analyzing all the guesses I came up with the following

There are 47 guess

The high of 341.4 and a low of 242

The average of all the guesses is 286.2972

getting rid of the high and the low the average is 286.054939

Since I am a 924s/944/951 guy I have no clue what one of these cars will produce.

I will go by the #'s My guess is 286.054939

Here is a graph of the guesses so far.

Tony,
When's the big day? We're all in suspense.

I think there's more power with some more fuel up top eh? A little lean!

Plus... I think the 41mm chokes are too small. I'm going to go up a notch.

I think I can get 300RWHP.

So it's time to go through the results and see who won!

And....

Just for fun:

Here's last the dyno chart comparing the 3.0L that was in the car, with the 3.6 that's in the car now. Both dyno runs were done on the exact same dyno at the same shop!

(the 3.0L dyno run was used for the last "guess the HP contest..." last year)

I was only low by about 4.9hp low on my guess. Not bad for the first one to guess!! :)

Cheers

sammyg2 01-15-2006 10:39 AM

My "unofficial" really quick scan says that Tinker is closest, camgrinder beat me by .4 hp, I think i came in 4th or 5th and I missed by 2.1143 hp.
It was very close.

Shuie 01-15-2006 10:40 AM

Nice pull! congrats!

snowman 01-15-2006 06:27 PM

Looks like the guy that stayed up all night making the graph came pretty darn close at 286.

Dean924s 01-15-2006 07:07 PM

Never underestimate the law of averages.. .. and it only took 10 min or so. Just plugged it in to Excel.

camgrinder 01-15-2006 08:45 PM

Nice job! I think I get 4th place?

Did you push in the clutch at the end of the run?

Wrecked944 01-16-2006 12:48 PM

OMG! That torque curve is so beautiluf it makes me want to weep with joy! And with carbs on top, it must give you truly supernatural throttle response. Thanks for sharing!:D

911teo 01-16-2006 08:23 PM

Awesome! I was "shy" by 1.44hp... Tinker beat me by .54hp... talk abt close...

Great results.... assuming 15% drive-train loss your engine is putting out 340hp... That's nearly 95hp/litre... Incredible results for a street car! And that torque curve.... WOW!

Jeff Alton 01-17-2006 12:15 AM

Matteo, I think we will have to play a similar game with your motor.....
:)

Cheers

911teo 01-17-2006 04:59 AM

Jeff

These results are awesome... I am most impressed by the torque curve...

If I can replicate Tony's # with the 3.9L I will end up with 315 rwhp and 270 lbs/ft of torque... Maybe I'll have Tony tune mine ahahaha!

beepbeep 01-17-2006 06:51 AM

Great pull!

But what's up with AFR's? Is that 14:1 @ 6000 RPM climbing to 15:1 at end? There is couple of horses burried there and couple of knock-broken rings hovering above ;)

TonyG 01-17-2006 09:32 AM

beepbeep

That's how the carbs came out-of-the-box. And I didn't have the proper air-correctors with me.

So I submitted the dyno run per the contest.

There's no knocking and while driving the car, you'd never know it's that lean up top.

I was supposed to take it to the track tomorrow, but that's not gonna happen until the a/f is taken care of.

Also, per the conversations with PMO, we both feel that 41mm chokes are too small and are going to install 43mm chokes.

So there's definitely going to be more power up top due to the fuel and the bigger chokes.

Hehe...I predicted 298hp but you "only" dynoed 290 :D I knew eight horses were hiding somewhere...

Pull that AFR down to 12.8 and it'll live longer. ;)

TonyG 01-17-2006 02:18 PM

beepbeep

Well.... if you really want to give yourself a pat on the back, the STD Corrected Power/TQ (actual wheel HP/TQ) was 298HP.

This chart doesn't count towards the contest, but you can hang it on your wall and tell everyone that you really should have won :-)

Hey, I did actually quote SAE-figure! :D :D

But now I see that I missed it by 0.24hp. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/drummer.gif
