Fascinating stuff!
Carl Thompson gave me a quick tour of his shop once...let's just say my mouth was stuck open for a long time after...:) It's pretty cool how much the 917 engine looks like a 911 engine x2! Best, Scott |
HOLY MOLY!!! I don't feel so bad looking out into my garage at the tiny 930 engine that's on my stand...PUNY little thing!!!
|
Looks like the biggest difference I can see is that the 917 engine has two rods per throw of the crank (ala american V8), while the 911 engine has one rod per throw. That and the gear drive in the middle ;)

Will one fit in my early car?
|
What did they use for a sealant on the case and cam towers? :)
Cheers |
More is better ey.
Lets see, where did I leave that check book? Regards, |
The 917 engine is best described as a 180 degree V-12.
Its valve train system was designed for the creation of the 916 2.0 four cam 911 engine built in 1968. |
