Threaded oil galley plugs

I have been threading all of my oil galleys to accept screw in plugs. However, the two largest plugs on either end of the main galley measure 0.866 inches. What pipe plug has been used in these holes? Can you use a threaded plug in the front hole, there is an oil passage very close to the plug?

Thanks,
neil

I had a case prepped once by a machinist who put threaded plugs in everthing. (Not really what I wanted.) Most of the plugs had to be machined to make them fit. As you suspected you need to be careful not to go too deep with some of them.

The factory main gallery plugs actually do go deep enough to partially plug one of the oil passages. Also, if you use a threaded plug for the main gallery plug that goes behind the fan, you will need to machine it shorter so it sits flush with the case. Otherwise it will interfere with the fan housing.

Some of the plugs can also interfere with the oil pressure pistons - beware. The clearance for one of the pistons is tight, and if the plug is too far into the channel, it will interfere with it's motion and give you big oil pressure problems...

Thanks Wayne and Chris,

I have decided to leave the pressed in plug on the front of the motor and thread the rear hole. This will be a 3/4 NPT pipe plug. I think the epoxy and fan will be safety enough for the front plug. The rear plug will give me good access to clean the galley during rebuilding.
