CAM timing help
In the process of setting the timing and had rotated engine at least 3 or 4 times by the crankshaft while working on the left side. When i moved to the right side attempted to rotate engine 360 and it is stuck and will not allow me to go past a certain point..appears locked up. I can go counterclockwise at that point just cant go clockwise. Any advice on what could be causing the jam?
Any advice would be appreciated. Mike 1974 911 coupe |

Let's assume you have just the number one intake rocker in number one cylinder. That's all you need to time the left cam.
So now you go to the right side and install the intake rocker for number four. Does it lock up at this point? If so, remove number four intake rocker. With the pin out of the right cam sprocket, rotate the motor clockwise a turn or two. This will verify you have the left side timed close. If it locks up you don't have the left side timed correctly. If it is OK then rotate the crank until the right cam and the left cam numbers or markings are oriented the same. No marks, use the keyways. When right and left match pin the sprocket. This will get the right side close. At ths point install the number four intake rocker and rotate the crank clockwise. Identify the number one crossover point where you timed it. Then rotate the crank 360 degrees and time the right side. Remember the left cam intake and exhaust lobes are just over 90 degrees to each other, the right side cam lobes are close maybe 30 degrees. The old "L" for left and "rabbit ears" for right. Good luck,
