Bad to build 2.7 on 4R case?

I have a really nice, low mileage 4R case. I have seen a 2.7 built on a 4R case, and it seemed to work well. However, there is a lot less metal around the no. 1 bearing in the 4R, so I wonder whether it would be strong enough after opening up the cylinder spigots. Opinions?

I had a 2.7 Carrera RS replica engine done with a 4R case. It lasted 10 years and then developed a crack. The crack was due to excessive windage mods inside the case not lack of material at #1 bearing. I also have a friend with a 2.7 on a 4R case with no problems. I'd say for street use it should be fine. If you race or want to use more than 7000 RPM get a 7R. -Andy
