3 liter to 3.7 liters?

Does any one no the specifics of this engine modification for a 1978 to1983 sc? I would like to know where I can get the pistons and cylinders to do this modification.

Do a search, I've posted this a few times over the years.

Andial offers a conversion to go from 3.0L to 3.7L using 102mm Mahle pistons/cylinders as the basis.

Sit down when you call Pete though, they aren't cheap.

What a bargain, eh?

Just the conversion parts (piston/cylinders, Carillo rods), twin-plug components & machine work to the case alone will cost over $10K!

This is why people do 3.6L transplants now.

Try charles at LN engineering... Ralph can't you take your 3.0 case, add a 3.2 crank and custom jugs and JE pistons? there are other ways. Also know that JB Racing in florida sell a lined cylinder combo, although not sure they go to that length

LN does offer a 102mm cylinder. Use this with a 74.4 carrera crank and you get around 3645cc.

Cheers

Hey Jeremy,

I don't know, I'm not familiar with other's products. I just know and trust the Mahle stuff. Old skool, you know?

I do know that even though it is the same 102mm bore from the 3.8L, it is still a special Mahle cylinder for the earlier 3.0L/3.2L/3.3L cases that is used exclusively for this conversion. According to Andial, the cylinder is 4mm longer so there is a proper foothold in the modified case (which has been machined down 4mm to compensate for the longer cylinder amongst other mods). I would think getting JE or someone else to make the correct piston may be easier than finding someone with the correct cylinders to make this work and reliably at that.

Small hijack, but have you gotten your motor on the dyno yet?

Ralph

Jeremy, get that thing on the dyno!! There is going to be a few good 3.4 on this board here sooon (a few more I should say). My head builder just told me my heads are going to take a month!!! Oh well, gonna have a lot of time to chassis weld etc.

I am sending my PC set to my machinist tomorrow to make sure they are okay, if they are not (like yours Jeremy) I am going 3.5 with a set of Nickies!!

Cheers

Greg, keep us posted! Mine is going to take longer than expected, yes Ralph, you can laugh! Maybe should plan a "enlarged motor get together" somewhere!!

Back on topic, Crashmy911, email me directly if you decide/need the nickies.

Cheers

Apparently it is very common for them to be a little out of spec and a little out of round. To anybody that get's any Porsche cylinder bored - measure measure measure!

As far as busy - my house is at least coming along
