Which ones are these? Can I bore?
 

Attached is a photo of a piston and cylinder from my 66' 2.0 The markings at the base of the cylinder read:
80 ZD 3
Which cylinders do I have?
I noticed in Wayne's book, under machine shop stuff, an entry for boring.
Questions: (1) Can these cylinders be bored? If so by how much?
(2) The head is stuck on the number 4 cylinder. I tried tapping from the inside of the cylinder, down on the head with my plastic dead-blow, but no luck. I'm really nervous about breaking-off fins. Is there a better way to remove a stubborn head?

Correct me if I'm wrong, that looks like a biral both by the coloring and the way the fins are cast. I picture from the top would help the clarify that further, as you can physically see two dissimilar materials in the face of the cylinder that seats against the heads. The bore should be 80mm, which you could take out to 81mm with some fresh JEs.

HI pop it in the oven and warm it up, then try taping it off with a block of wood up the cylinder. good luck

Can 80mm biral cylinders be bored to accept 84mm 2.2/2.4 pistons?

Sadly, no

The cylinder is an 80 mm biral. These were standard for the early 2.0 motors. The 80 mm cast iron cylinders were introduced in the T motors for '68 and later.

The piston is also standard fare for the early 65-68 motors. A nice "slipper skirt" piston.

80s can be bored to 81.

What do you guys mean by slipper skirt piston? How many rings would my JE's have?

if you make a jig to hold the cylinders when boring them, you should get the 84mm 2.2/2.4 pistons to fit OK, as I have a 2.0Lt running round with some JE piston at 86mm in biral cylinders on a fresh bore, now covered over 3,500 miles of spirited driving by the owner.
