Oil Leak ? ?
Hey guys,
Just wondering if this oil leak is comming from the rocker arm shaft? You can see that one section of the top intake rocker arm is black with leaked oil. Or is this a bigger problem? Is there any way to insert the rsr gaskets without taking the engine down to a lower level? ![]() |

Sorry I am not sure if I was clear enough the first time. I added arrows to what I am concerned about. The RED arrow is pointing towards the area with excessive oil deposits, the GREEN arrow is pointing towards the next cylinder which does not have the oil leak problem.

Hard to tell - but a rocker shaft seal could be your issue. how many miles? And yes, you can install RSR seals with the motor in - but it's 10 times easier if you drop the engine.

I think in that area it could be a leaking rocker shaft or a leak between the cam tower and that head, unless i'm missing something.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. I have the engine out of the car already, it has 76,000 miles. I just didn't want to tear the chain housings off, then the cam housings, and all that jazz if I didn't have too. I could try tightening the cam tower bolts down a bit. If I remember correctly there is no gasket between the heads and the cam towers, so is there any way I could fix that if it is the problem. I imagine fixing that issue would essentially be a top end rebuild.
Would you think that a cam tower to head leak is a critical thing to fix immediately or something that should be watched and fixed sometime down the road when more critical issues are at hand? Thanks a lot for your input it is very much appreciated. |

Check the torque on the headstuds - always - and yes, the better fix is the top end - otherwise you clean it up - and look for where it's leaking....

I would install the RSR things and redo the seal b/t the camtower and the heads.
