Clutch Alignment by EYE
Hi,
Just went to the local Dealer and asked for a clutch alignment tool......obviously there are al least 3 differnet types. The mechanic was a bit skeptical of the tool and said that he does them by eye. The reason is that he has found that even using the tool there has been issues. Anyone with experience with this? ie tool not working or using the eye method? Cheers Mark...... |

Hi Mark,
I have used the eye method as well as a clutch guide tool. There are a number of them, all depends an what gearbox you have, and the size of the main shaft. I've got one for a turbo, but it will be too thick for a 915 gearbox. What you need is an old 915 mainshaft, or something that approximates. If you call me I can give you the number of a guy who has a number of cut down shafts one of which may do the trick. Cheers

I have done it by leaving the pressure plate slightly loose and then using the trans as a centering tool. It requires two people but it is free. Just tighten up PP after clutch is centered and trans removed. Done about 4 of them, no problems. Lou

I have the tool, but have done it by eye before. You can also use an old skool Snap-On ratchet handle.

For a really high tech approach, find a couple of sockets that fit the area inside the pilot bearing and the clutch disk and bolt them together. Like the Snap-On socket wrench handle approach, the good thing is that you can usually find them when you need them.

Thanks guys......
Paul will give you a call tonight. I will also have a look at the sockets and handles I have in the tool box to see what fits good ideas. Using the tranny is tough since it is still in the car! Thanks..... Mark. |
