intermediate shaft help

After discovering a torn-up intermediate-shaft cover, previous post, I shifted attention to the end of my intermediate shaft. In the two photos, one is of the end of the shaft, currently in the motor, and 1, is of another shaft from a 69' 2.0. The later, comes from a case with bearing shells for the shaft, the other rides on the case. The ends are significantly different. Could someone explain why. Does the one in the case "appear" to be ok, or is it totaled? Thank you in advance!
