frozen exhaust studs

Any ideas on how best to remove frozen exhaust studs on 911 heads. I've tried as much oxy heat as I dare, but they are still seriously stuck.
Trying not to break them off and having to drill them out.
Thanks
Alan

Hello, Alan.

More oxy heat, paraffin wax, hit with hammer, more oxy heat, etc..

Weld a nut to the stud..

I heat until the fins just begin to melt!

I reckon to get 10 out of 12 out ..the rest i drill..

Good luck.

Kind regards
David

Wooo - sounds like I've not brave enough on the heat.
I use quite a bit on the block for the head studs, but was not sure how much you could get away with on the heads.
Will try again. At the moment the stud just wants to twist rather than rotate.
Thanks
Alan

Thanks Vash.
I can get a strong grip on it - the stud is trying to twist ie break off.
Prefer it came free. Will try some more heat.
Who is that girl?
regards
Alan

The consensus from those with experience is that if the stud is gonna break, it's gonna break. Nothing you can do about it. That said, you should still heat the crap out of all of them and try as hard as you can to avoid having to drill them out. I recently had to remove the studs from my engine and I felt lucky to get away with only 4 broken studs. Drilling them out wasn't fun, but it wasn't as bad as I expected.

One busted (drilling out partly done), one free - with lots of heat.
Man they are tight.
Seems like a waste of a good duck tail - to be buried. Those pre 76's weren't galvanised.
