Porting &polishing of heads ??

Hi

I have a stock 2.7 engine from 1977.
Some guys told me I can port & polish the heads???

Has anyone already done this?
For example how big can I go for porting and what about polishing?

All info is welcome

Regards
Bart

HI give henry a ring at supertec or just clean up the heads and put them back, find a head guy near you to port/polish and flow the heads and has a good rep'for doing porsche heads, i have a good guy hear in the UK i send my heads to, who uses a flow bench with good results.

Well that's the problem!!

I'm from Belgium, so it will be too expensive due to shipping

I want to do it myself, but i need some detailed info

The first question I'd ask is why? Before you answer, by this I mean specifically why in the case of your engine? Have you changed the cams? Injection system? Pistons? Have you changed the gear ratios? What objective (in terms of a HP and torque) are you trying to achieve?

In general 911 heads flow more then adequately and are rarely the limiting factor in the engine's performance. So as a result, an increase in the flow of the head alone will rarely result in much of a performance improvement since it is other factors which may be limiting the engine's performance potential.

So what specifically is it you are trying to accomplish?

Well

I want to rebuild the complete engine.

They told me by polishing & porting you can get a better performance of your engine (better fill of the chambers).

I only want to know till what hole diameter I can go or what else is possible

HI sent you a PM

If you aren't dumping the CIS and soft cams, there is no point doing head work. If you are going to carbs, etc, you can easily go with a GE60 cam and 38mm ports for some serious top end rush. It just depends on how far you want to go. Porting is nothing without the other commensurate changes required to take advantage of it.
