Rebuild Complete!! PICS!
Ive finally finished my 911 Engine rebuild. What started out as a clutch, oil leak fix, and exhaust stud replacement job turned into me saying "well, while I'm here... " and then included Check and measure all parts... Cylinder honing, Rings, Cleaning heads and installing new Valve guides and stem seals, all new gaskets and Fixed all oil leaks. I ordered a clutch kit for my 71 2.2 t engine and when I got it in realized that this clutch didnt fit. I then realized I had a 2.4 from a 72 car and a 915 Gearbox!!! This was a Great find! After finding a few more bugs (as usual) I am Finally beginning to Break it in!.. the engine is VERY strong and shows Very good high compression. When on throttle it has a nice sounding whistle to it.. Everything is just sooo smooth now: ) Now my "drawback" is the Weber carbs.
I today began my process of tuning the carbs. Ive got the Air set screws about 1/8th turn out and the mixture screws turned out about 2 turns. Car runs fairly strong on throttle but will backfire when on deceleration or between around 2000 to 3000 has some "drawback" (feels like a no fuel situation for a sec) even at a constant speed... Any ideas? What book would be best to Tune these carbs? WEber 40 ida to my knowledge. The engine is now painted the Factory Irish green, gold and silver. I went ahead and painted the engine bay the Irish green color while the engine was out. The car will later be painted this early 70's factory color. Last photo of me DEgreasing the Engine once initially out. Thanks to ALL the help when asked! ![]() ![]() ![]()

There ya go... price on the jack... However, .. I cant believe we're talking more about a $50 jack rather than the engine!

Are those two different engines? The valve colors are different yet very sharp. Did you do the powder coating or is that high-temp paint? Looks sharp either way. This is motivating, I'm starting the same thing in a couple weeks, first time.
Cheers, Nabil

....And don't run it with those heater ducts by the fan open like that. I'm sure you didn't but I know somebody who did. Nasty.

The "2" engines are the same. Valve covers have been painted w/ automotive paint, Not powdercoating or high temp paint. I've used this process before on high temp applications and had no problems. All engine parts are painted the same.
Thanks for the posts!

a couple of other visual clues to the 2.4L status would have been the MFI injector plugs in the heads and the yellow fan shroud, but you can never be certain till you get inside.

As far as your running problems are concerned, sounds lean to me. Almost certain. I'm well versed in the Zeniths but not so much on the webers. Can you richen the high-speed running without changing the mains??

Nabilous.. Right, very correct on the fuel injectors.. I was unsure of cover color on the 2.2. What are they?
Im still going through all the jet sizes to see if they are all the same.. which I've found one to be .5 less than the other six. Ive also found some debris in some of the jets.. Now running much better than before, but still I know it can be better. Not nearly as much backfiring at this point. ... Who knows what the persons before me had done... Oh, yeah.. this was also my first time.. Feels good! Anyone know why my shifter linkage may not be allowing me to go to 1st or 2nd Everynow and again.. but If I push it to the full reverse right side and then back it'll go into the 1st and 2nd position... ???

Looks like your plan is coming along well. Good to hear she runs strong- just like new! Comes with doing a good job. And I like your confidence with your color choice.
