Overly Aggresive Case Cleaning?
I've started the final cleaning of my 7R case for the 2.5SS I'm building. I've got all of the normal stuff: bore brushes, brake cleaner, compressed air, Scotchbrite pads, etc. I also have a Dremmel with both nylon and stainless steel brushes. These are great for nooks and crannies otherwise difficult to reach. I'm wondering, however, if the stainless brush works TOO well. It really makes stuff look great, and works quickly, but is it too aggressive? Is it removing too much material? It produces a sheen you won't see from the Scotchbrite pads. There is the obvious risk of loose bristles, but the brush is well made and shows no intention of shedding them. What do you think?

Depending on brissle grit. Some cut more than others. Maybe try in a discrete place first, you dont want to scar the material.. I used Acid (can get it at an A/C shop) on mine, came out clean enough for me. I could see a scotch pad doing well.

The bristles are pretty fine. I'm just intending to do the inside of the case as a means of getting it very clean. My concern is introducing small particles of stuff that will defeat the purpose of cleanliness. I did a small area, and it looks great. Can I count on getting all of the material I'm removing out of the case via compressed air, brake parts cleaner, and Kim wipes?

Scotch pad is probably the better idea for the Inside... I thought you were referring to the outside. You dont want any small debris (case material) left inside...which the metal bristles may remove.
maybe get others opinions. How caked up is the inside of your case?

The case isn't bad. It is a little scaly in places, with oxidized material resulting in a rough finish. The nice thing about the finish provided by the stainless brush is that a) it's easy to do, and b) it results in a surface that I'm confident could be free of any grit that might otherwise cling to rough surfaces. I share your concern about very small pieces of mag remaining inside.
