Oil Coolers / Cooling
After the 3 new gasket o rings on the oil cooler installed on my 2.4 it is still leaking. I pulled it off and realized the leak appeared to be coming from the upper left new o ring gasket (when looking at the engine side)... I suppose for some reason it isnt sealing good enough. Anyone seen this? I reinstalled it with gasket sealant and still the problem pursists. I do have a 2.2 oil cooler I could put on but it is a little different than the one off of my 2.4. The 2.2 one has threads for the return line as opposed to hose clamp fitting.. Im sure I could get it to fit though... The other thing is, I wonder if it would leak just the same.
Any ideas ?

You are meaning the one mounted to the eng right ??...if so 2 things come to my brain, -too high oil P. (Stuck relive valve ) a crack on the cooler, a thermostat leak also disguises itself as being from some where else..

Oil Pressure seems normal idle around 20 and cruisn around 60mph is about 60psi. Where is this Relieve Valve??
Crack in the Cooler may be right, but Im thninking in the rows, not near the gasket... The Thermostat is located on the pass side of the car nearest the firewall right? Thanks for the post!

unless the 2.4 is diff from the rest there are two spring loaded valves at the rear near the flywheel...(bottom) one is on the bottom and one goes in from the side...but I feel that your deal is probly a crack or the stat on top as it will run dwn on everything

Not the thermostat. I warmed it up again and Smoke was just Billowing from the fender well.. Got under the car and could see dripping oil from the bottom of the Oil Cooler onto the Exhaust.
![]() Consider though that when I pulled off the cooler the other day I noticed oil leaking from the top Left side hole on the block itself. No oil residue seen above the hole. Correction on PSI.. 60mph (3300 rpm) is about 50psi
