Fidanza lightweight flywheel; 911SC

I bought a lightweight Fidanza flywheel for my 83 911SC and it came with a disclaimer stating that I had to use the flywheel pilot bushing from the early 911SC model, #901-102-025-01. This was the press fit pilot bushing vice the 3 bolt unit that attaches to the end of the crankshaft. Has anyone used this flywheel with the earlier pilot bushing and does it fit ok??

i have the same flywheel and yes the early pilot bearing fits fine. the problem i ran into however is that there is a case bolt boss that sticks out a little more than the others and it hits the flywheel. i called the company and they said that because it is aluminum that they needed to make the flywheel thicker and that a little filing is sometimes needed on the boss to clear the flywheel. pretty minor but just so you know.

I am running that same setup, and had exactly the same experience with the bolt boss. No problem to clearance it just a bit.

Mine is a race-only car, but I have heard of many people running it on street cars with no problems.

We have used Fidanza flywheels in the past and discovered that they are not very rigid. They can flex so much that the flywheel can hit the engine case behind the flywheel. In extreme circumstances we have seen the flywheel rivets machined off causing catastrophic failure.
Use at your own risk.
BTW: Fidanza was happy to replace the defectives flywheels but offered no design improvements and no explanation for the failures.

I'll echo Henry's experiences with Fidanza's.

I've had issues not only with fitment, but the same kinds of failures. If one does some research, there are better alternatives, IMHO.

Sachs Power clutch is made with an aluminum housing to reduce weight.
We are working on an RSR style steel flywheel.
Bremtec built them in the past but I have not seen an available for many years.

We used to use the Tilton aluminum ones but those are NLA. There is a fellow back East thats makes an excellent one from 7075 T6 and a replaceable steel lining.
