79 SC dissassembly question

Is it ok to lightly scribe the piston domes and cylinder fins for identification?

I would not scribe them.

Get a permanent ink marker or store them as pairs in marked plastic bags.

If you must, scribe them underneath... I just clean them real good and use a sharpie
