3.0L Valve Guide Sizes
Hello All-
The machinist and I are attempting to determine if an intermediate valve guide exists between the 1st oversize and 2nd oversize dimensions. The only choices listed by Pelican Parts (and anywhere else I can think to look for that matter) are 1st-13.08mm and 2nd-13.26mm. It seems these heads have been reconditioned before so the 1st oversize guides have been used, but the 2nd oversize seems excessively large. If at all possible, I'd like to find a happy medium between 1st and 2nd oversizes to provide the chance to recondition these heads one more time if necessary. Does anyone know if such a guide exists (i.e. between 13.08 and 13.26mm) for the 3.0L? Also, any opinions concerning the phosphorus bronze material as opposed to the standard bronze valve guides? Advantages, disadvantages? Thanks for the help in advance, --Kevin |

HI the std porsche guide is 13.060 with a head hole dia' of 13.000-13.018 the 1st over size is 13.260 to fit head 13.000-13.200 the 2nd over size is 13.460 to fit head 13.201-13.400, check the size of your guide holes in the head and turn the valve guides down according to the actual hole in the head ALLOW for the compression/tight fit at 0,06-0.09mm OR send the heads to supertec to sort

I believe Walt at Competition Engineering has his custom made to size by Technovance. Maybe your machinist can give them a call?
