Which way to go on my (re)build

So I had it all planned, found a good 7R case, bought a set of 2.7 Cylinders and 9.5CR (for a SS) JE Pistons, take my 2.2 liter apart and build up a SS 2.5 using my existing parts. Use the Webers from the 2.,2 for induction, the early HE's and voila, a nice little engine. (Un)fortunately I came across a deal on a 2.4T with MFI, now I have another couple of options.

1. Assuming the Cylinders are good on the 2.4 I could sell the extra stuff, get some 2.4S pistons and a S cam( or I have a E cam) , have the MFI rebuilt to S spec's. I can probably do this for a net zero cost after selling the 90mm Pistons/Cylinders, Webers, R case and extra stuff from the 2.2

2. Go with the original plan for a 2.5 but use the MFI

3. Build a 2.7 with MFI

I am leaning towards number 3 because it will make more HP/Torque, I already have most of the parts and unless I use the 2.4T as is, using the MFI means I will have to get it rebuilt anyway. Since number 3 is basically a 2.7RS motor there is nothing unusual about the MFI setup.

So the questions are, can the MFI setup from the 2.4T (plastic stacks) be rebuilt to 2.7RS spec's? What is the cost for this (Henry?)

I also have a set of MFI E cams, what about using these instead of S cams for a little more response down low?

Any gotcha's anyone can think of? Using the 9.5CR pistons I bought for a SS on a 2.7 means I will have a CR of around 10.3:1 so Iwill have to twin plug, but that was in the plan anyways.

Go crazy guys, it's only my money

A little off topic but the company I work for built/reno the golf course in priddis in 04 and last year. Made many, many trips into "down town priddis" if you can call it that. Love that area.

Back to your rebuild....

One thing I would do 100% is get the S cams. They are a blast and with the these smaller motors they love to scream.

As for what I would do I would rebiuld the 2.4-either a 2.5 "S" style with 86mm cylinders or what I would really want to do is a 2.7 "S" style motor. That car would fly.

My 73S is 100% stock and once you hit 4500RPM it pulls to red line like crazy and this is stock 8.5 comp to run on cheap gas . I cant imagine a high comp 2.7 or 2.9

I belong to that club, and I live just across the highway from the North Nine (the one that was rebuilt in 2004/2005)

I am leaning towards the 2.7 and now I think I want S cams... oh well, it;'s only money, right

I think the 2.5SS is a great choice. I'd say that you should stay the course but regardless of motor use at least S cams. E cams are for smaller motors that need the torque. A 2.5 or 2.7 has enough displacement for torque and HP on hot cams.

Can I have the E cams reground to S spec's? And can the 2.4T pump be adjusted to work with a SS 2.5 9.5:1 CR motor, or do I need to send it in to get rebuilt?

I'm not sure if he is still around, but Jerry Fairchild in Southern California use to rebuild the MFI pumps. If you can find him ask the questions regarding the T pumps and as important the throttle bodies and stacks. The MFI pumps are not very forgiving if the system isn't matched. I like the early "S" cams and am reassembling a 2.7 Euro spec engine with 90mm Euro Carrera pistons. Pulled it down to reseal everything. Bottom line the motor is in my 914-6 and is really strong with the 7 : 31 Ring and pinion. I'm running the webers instead of the MFI. EuroMetric did the carbs. Good luck whatevery you do. I'm sure you'll be happy with the end result.
This is a great forum. I've got to get a life away from Porsches.

Everything I have heard is that Fairchild is still around.
