Remove air injectors or not?
Hi There,
I am rebuilding my 1985 930 Turbo and I am considering not refitting the air injectors that fit in the exhaust ports back when I rebuild. For what its worth I don't believe they are necessary and also I ended up having to cut a pipe to one of the injectors in order to get it off (its a long nasty story). Does anybody have any opinions on this one or any good advice? Thanks in advance Steve in the sunny UK :-) |

I'd only refit them if I needed to pass a smog inspection. Be sure to put some kind of plug in the holes. These are available in several places and are not tapered threads.

There is no way I would run air injection on an engine that was smog exempt. It creates heat and heat is bad.
No smog test= no smog equipment. Cheers

Hello, Steve.
Its an odd thread.. I'd weld the injectors and use them to block the holes..works fine. Kind regards David |

throw that smog crap in the trash then plug the holes. you should still be able to pass the smog test without it. the plugs are easy to come by just take one of the air injectors to you local nut and bolt store and they should have socket (allen wrench) plugs. i did that here they were about 20 cents a piece

Air injectors make great potential FOD (foreign object damage) for a turbo as I've found out in the past. My turbo passes strict California standards with just the Cat in place. If I remember correctly the thread pitch on those is 10-1.0 . Pelican sells them.
