				Engine # 6529082

I currently have a 74 2.7 engine in my early 72 Targa and am considering putting in a 2.4 which is more original to the chassis number. I have a line on what is said to be a 1972 T 2.4 engine with number 6529082. Can anyone throw some light on what this engine might be since I thought a 72T should start with 612. Also if this engine is "special" what sort of HP might in produce?

				Thanks Chris

According to Wayne's book (pag 201), the engine is from a 911TV. I'm not familar with the TV model. Anyone?

			Hi there,

From Peter Morgan's 'Original 911' book 6529082 is a Euro spec 1972 T from a Sportomatic, engine type 911/67. As original this would have Zenith TIN carbs, and make 130bhp. Regards Angus

Angus, I am originally from England and spent many years living in Somerset just South of Bristol. Wiltshire is a beautiful county and my old VW bug covered many miles there. Regards Chris

Chris, T-V stands for 'Touring- Vergaser" which is the German word for "carburetor" or "carburettor" if you are from the UK

T-E (as Angus shows in his signature) is "Touring- Einspritzung" or "Injection" which refers to the fact that the latest 911T's had the MFI setup prior to the mid-1973 cutover to CIS. It's only a case number, however. I would never disdain anyone's attempt to revert to originality, but from a driving standpoint the 2,7 will have more torque around town. If you don't have the original engine anymore, for concours purposes you'll always be limited (when you enter a PCA concours you must display your COA with the engine number) and the 2,7 case looks very much the same from the outside as the case from the 2,4. So you don't have to change engines, merely change the induction system from CIS to MFI, which will increase the power and let you run wilder cams, thus achieving an original appearance while keeping the torque of the bigger dispalcement. Good luck!
