Question 3.2 rebuild options

planning on having a specialist rebuild both tranny and motor in my 85 3.2 targa. not sure whether to gowith basic big bore 3.6 or just build up a high compression 3.2 to with lighter flywheel, headers, big cams. As for the tranny, thinkin rsr final drive and torque biasing diff. with billet bearing cage. Anyone got motor ideas? the price is right around $9000 for the motor build, and would like to stay in that range

3.4 or 3.5 - ss sport cams higher compression - extrude hone - better exhaust

You need a target in terms of dollars spent or hp you want to get to. I know you said 9k - is that firm or s.t. a hp target?

FWIW, my motor is the cheap version of Jeremy's - std euro 3.2 jugs, 993 Supercup cams, SSIs, std intake, remapped SW chip mapped off dyno AFRs. It made 260hp before remapping, so say 265+hp with one iteration of mapping. The extra cc's, and better flow from the honed intake and bigger header diameter gets you another 20-ish hp all other things being equal. There are many ways to get to your hp goals. One of my track day mates has a 3.5 on Motec with the 964 plastic inlet but more std cams making 303hp and lots of torque. You can buy the adapters for the 964 inlet from 9M in the UK and Steve Wong will hook you up with a gadget to open the resonance flap. The Motec and intake change netted 20hp on this car over and above the 3.5.

You can get a nice 3.4 built with new P's & C's, cams, etc. for that price and the result will be a nice smooth engine with more torque and more fun.
