Just wanted to post a message thanking Jimmy Deering of Mobile Works east for the great job he did with my top end rebuild and clutch installation....
A little bit of background on my story. This is my first 911 and I've owned it for about a year. It's a 1979 SC Targa and I bought it for a pretty good price knowing it needed a little TLC. When I bought the car with 106K on it I was told the motor was in good shape, it had service records, heads studs were all in tact and it passed emissions without much trouble. I knew I was going to need a clutch at some point but I was fine with that since the price was attractive and I was eager for the "Porsche Experience". Well, you know what they say, be careful what you wish for......With a 911 you cannot pick and choose the experience. You get it all wether you like it or not. This isn't really a bad thing but it is something you should think about before taking the plunge....... Okay, so I called Mobile Works East for an estimate on the clutch....His price seemed good and I was intrigued by the mobile aspect so I scheduled it to be done at my house one morning. What I thought was going to be a days worth of work ended up turning into several weeks of my car being down for repairs.....Not really what I was expecting but in the end I am very happy with the end result. Without going into too much detail all I can say is that you should not expect to drop a 30 year old engine and tranny out of your 911 and expect things to go as planned......Needless to say it went a little something like this. "You got a second".....Yeah..."You see that?"....Yeah...."You see that?".....Yeah....Etc. Etc. Etc. Anyway, you probably get the picture. Long story short I was looking at a top end rebuild to go along with my clutch replacement. How's that for an upsell? Several weeks later a quite a bit poorer I have a really nice engine and clutch. Jimmy is a stand up guy and really knows how to work on these vehicles. Working out of a van isn't the easiest set up in the world but he makes it work and if you have the space I wouldn't hesitate to call him for a service..... Keep in mind that he is a one man show and keeps a very busy schedule. You might also want to think about the logistical challenge you could be faced with if things do not go as planned. Anyway, his contact information is listed below and if you live in the Northern California it's a good number to keep on file. Thanks for reading and good luck with your "Porsche Experience".
