1979 Turbo Fuel Distribuitor
Hi All,
I have been told that the 930 Turbo 78 and 79 CIS fuel distributors by Bosch can flow more fuel than the distributors used in the Turbo from 1986 on. I understand that the original 930 distributors were recast from V8 Mercedes fuel distributors and two of the ports were blocked off so that only 6 remained for the 930? Is it true that these fuel distributors were further modified and used in 934s and 935s? What makes them better then the newer fuel CIS distributors which I think do not use metal lines to the injectors? Did they have a larger control plunger with larger slits? Was the frequency value different? Did the Differential Pressure Valves have higher pressure metal diaphragm? Were larger Differential Pressure Valves used with a larger bore? - different kind of materials and or designs? Other then total contamination what else will destroy these distributors? Why are they so hard to rebuild other then sealing all the parts back together. It looks like John Walker has mastered the art of rebuilding these units from his comments on this board? How do the Bosh units compare to the Python? Is there any document that explains how to rebuild these properly. I notice a few companies who will rebuild them for $600-1000 but I think I would trust a rebuilt unit from Bosh over those. Of course a rebuild Bosh unit is $2300? I would appreciate all comments. This is a nightmare for me since I had a shop destroy my original Bosh rebuilt fuel distributor (2 years old) and the 6 new injectors that were installed during the so called engine rebuild. But that is a long story that I will write a book about someday. Since this situation was worst then any thing that could have happened if you were using the worst shop in the US! Thanks, Don |

The hot setup these days seems to be the modified fuel dist. from Imagine Auto.

Yes, the 79 fuel head will flow more fuel.
You are essentially talking about a Euro conversion. The fuel head will give you a little more fuel flow, but unfortunately, the emissions control will continue to choke your motor To do this correctly, you will also need to change the fuel lines, fuel injectors, and the warm-up regulator to the european versions. This gets rid of the jetronic box, frequency valve, and all of the other emissions equipment. Do an ebay search for euro fuel systems, you can sometimes pick up a whole setup fairly reasonably. **EDIT after I noticed you are living in California** You can, if you keep the catalyst actually tune the engine to run cleaner than it did with the emissions equipment (we've tested with a 5 gas analyzer) This may constitute as tampering under CA law.
