BReyes, many thanks. My rebuild was preventative maintenance. I am very pleased. The car continues to be a pleasure to drive. The "slope", however, is very slippery.

Come on Chuck, this thread is going great ... not time to for offline private time! ;-)

My newly acquired '83 930 has a nicely massaged engine with Kokeln intercooler and turbo, RUF intake, B&B headers and exhaust and a few other niceties (inc flame ring heads). It has a USA fuel distributor and lamba which I'm going to change to a Euro/ROW distributor and toss the lamba harness. Supposedly this will help matters and although its not detonating now at 1.0 bar I'd like more insurance without springing for an Andial fuel enrichment rig. I'm amazed at how many mods are available for these engines.

However, for me now, rather than look for more Hp at this point I'm looking to put what I already have to the road more efficiently and so researching G50 trans conversion. Going with a nicely geared 5 speed will make more difference than just about anything else I can do to the engine now.

Cheers!

Pdqcarrera, don't discount changing the gearing on the existing 4-speed. Matching your gearing (all four gears) to the engine and the type of driving you do can make all the difference in the drive-ability and enjoyment of your car.

Yes, I looked into the re-gearing of the 4 speed as an option. The gears and cost of regearing is quite expensive and brings it close enough to the G50 upgrade to make the latter worth the extra difference.
