Need Valve/Spring tool
Can anyone direct me to the large C-clamp tool for removing valves and springs from my cyl. heads. I need to send them to the machine shop for twin-plugging.
Not this in the car tool, I already have one ![]()

You know you can use a standard valve-spring compressor. I have the one shown, a cool huge one with a Delring end that you can insert the retainer clips in through the end, but my favorite is still the basic el-cheapo one i got from NAPA auto parts.

Most major tool manufacturers carry a C-type valve spring compressor. K-D is one as well as Proto, Challenger, Snap-On, Duro, even Sears.

I got a $10.00 P.O.S. from Harbor Freight, big mistake. I thought that it was no big deal, I only had to do 6 valves, no problem.
Well, I was very wrong. Now it's laying out in the driveway because it isn't worth picking up until I sweep next time. For the record, it's the kind with 2 arms that grab the springs and a screw on top with a knob on it to tighten it down. This type is no good in a 911 application. |

Sears tool is a POS. Only snap-on is worth buying. All the others are crap. The air powered is the best bet. Note for race springs, ie 300 plus pounds, you will need special compressors. The seat pressure on my 912 is over 250 lbs. Open is over 400 lbs Redline 8500 plus It won't last long.
Broke in at 9500 rpm Cam duration- 328 degrees Last edited by snowman; 10-02-2006 at 11:12 PM.. |

HI try (if you have any one that supply's them) FACOM U43LA tool works a treat on 911 heads and also has a small slide hammer for the stubborn valve collets.

Yeah, I forgot to mention all of mine are C - style.
The one that grabs the srping and pushes down on the valve simply desn't work well at all, and doesn't fit of the cam tower is in place.
