Chain Tensioners -- 1983 930
I'm beginning the teardown of a 1983 930 engine. Symptoms: no compression on cyls 4,5 & 6. Inspection revealed broken top head studs (at least) on all three cylinders. I'm preparing for a total rebuild and gathering information and parts, therefore I'd appreciate any advice the P'listers can share.
Question for this post: I've noticed the engine does not have carrera-style oil-fed tensioners. Can this engine accept the upgraded carrera-style tensioners? If yes, is there any modification that should be made to the stock oil circulation system to do that upgrade? Thanks, Duane

I put them on my 79 so they fit fine. If you do some searching, there should be some info about changing some oil system orifice, I believe it's on the outside of the engine. I believe it's a larger orifice which would provide more volume but at a lower pressure. I didn't bother.
Some folks do put larger piston squirters in during a rebuild if they're going for a high hp track car.

Carrera tensioners will retrofit without issue.
The oil pump is a great piece but it can be modified to flow even more oil. After all the oil is the life of the engine. Bigger squirters in this application is a waste of money. Check to make certain that they are clean and you'll be fine. The modification is actually cam feed restricters and they replace the fitting where the banjo bolt for the cam feed lines bolts to the cam tower. The restriction reduces flow the the cam towers keeping more pressure in the lower end of the engine. The old fittings flow close to 18 gallons per hour and the restricter flow close to 12 gal/hr. This allows for a more than adequate flow to the cams and rockers yet not fill the engine with unnecessary oil that must be scavenged later. These were standard equipment on 91 & later Turbos. The flow restriction was built into all C2 (964>) engine after 89.
