Price check.......

I've searched in vain but couldn't find anyting this specific.

From a top notch shop:

For engine removal, complete ring job, head studs, complete valve job, all machine work, replace oil lines, returns and reseal, reinstall.

$4K????

Parts seem to be in line but 30 hrs for all??

Sounds reasonable to me

Sounds like a reasonable wintertime DIY job to me!

Does the valve job include new valve guides or just a regrind?

Yes, guides included. DYI is what I am debating now. I just dont have the time and space this winter to do this so I am thinking the 3K in labor is not bad.

Thanks!

I hope you fare better than me, I need new exhaust valves as well, timing sprockets, chains, P's and C's, it became 7k real quick, and I'm not even done buying new parts yet.

well if you don't have the space (and can not rent suitable space) then your decision is made in the DIY issue.

If $1k is parts you would also need to add machine shop fees to that to get a true DIY cost, so maybe that $3k is a bit less?

Sound fair to me. Check Wayne's rebuild book, it goes over labor and parts cost in detail.

Very reasonable...

...the bottom end is quite simple and not that many hours in labor (or parts) provided there isn't machining required.

Thanks all. I just picked up Wayne's 101 book and should have ordered the Rebuild at the same time. I figured I'd have the shop take car of this job and I'll spend the time on the easier stuff!!
