Porsche 9091 vs adjustable spanner wrench

Hey folks,

Does anyone have experience with the 9091 sprocket tool vs. an adjustable face pin spanner wrench for holding the cam sprocket or setting mechanical timing? In other words, if I'm going to spend $90 on a new tool, do I have to have the 9091 or can that money be spent on a multi-use tool? I suppose some considerations are whether I can get the necessary leverage to hold the sprocket to remove and replace the cam shaft end-bolt (88 ft/lbs) or get the necessary offset.

I assume you mean the 9191 tool for 3.2 engines.
I looked a lot, and couldn't find anything that would work.
The tool needs a reasonably long handle so you can hold the position firmly while setting the timing.
Also, the pins have a small flat on the inside edge to clear the washer - a normal pin wrench would require some modifications.
Finally, I wouldn't want to try it with a two pin tool - the factory tool has three and when holding against 80 '-#, it seems barely adequate.

You need the tool definitely they are really tight.

I made my own, it only had 1 pin which I made from a cap head bolt as these are tough. The 1 pin did not damage the sprocket at all and I got them off no problem (with the wife hanging on the end).

If anyone wants details to make there own I can post these.
