Need help on a 3.2
I have a 87 Carrera with a 3.2. I have SSI's, M&K exhaust and a Steve Wong chip. I do 80% street and 20% De events. I want to start planning for the future and just spent an hour searching this website for the hot 3.2 setup. Do I go to 3.4 or 3.5. Should I just buy a 3.6? I did the searches and came up short. Is there a website that I can build a motor online? I want to start accumulating the parts but I want the configuration set up first.

Going through this myself. It all depends on a bunch of factors.
#1 - If P's & C's are good the cheapest solution would bee to keep them. This will then change the cam and ignition options drastically. #2 - If the P's & C's can be changed then you can go to a 3.4 or 3.5, change compression ratio, modify heads for twin-plug, change the ignition, and change to carbs. #3 - Upgrade to a 3.6 My estimate doing it yourself puts options #1 around $5-6k. Option #2 can run to $15k. Option #3 can run $10k+ and youo still have a used un-rebuilt motor. The real question is what do you want in terms of performance and what are you willing to spend? I have 102,000 miles on the car so I think that if I do anything, I am going right down to splitting the case and replacing the rods and bolts. If I wanted to build a 3.4 or 3.5, how do I decide all of the other factors like stroke, cam, etc? I would like to stay with pump gas and stay with the current injection system.

I'm thinking about this too - I know where I can get some Euro 3.2 pistons (10.3:1) and had thought about doing new cams too. Looking fro input on what kind of gais to expect and how drivability would be impacted, if at all.

How much rear wheel horsepower can I reasonably expect from a 3.2 converted to a 3.4 and still have it "streetable"?

around 244/250 depends alot on if you have to smog. not sure the 993 ss cams are smogable.
If that's your goal, then I would follow Ralph's lead. 3.5 - 20/21 cams, machine the case, make it look purdy - extrude hone, ARP rod bolts, 993 steel or supertech head studs, cam line restrictors, change the carrera fuel line, rsr rocker seals, new cht and reference sensors.
