IDA WEber Rebuild

I've got a set of IDA's that the Throttle shafts are worn on. I can easily move them up and down at the back ends of the carbs. Of course I'll need to get the Throttle shafts rebuilt.
I've found 3 places that do the job but sure seem expensive. I was wondering where I might be able to buy the throttle shaft parts to make them tight again by outsourcing the carbs to a machine shop w/ lathe. Or is it possible to just install new bearing ends?
Anyone found good service at an affordable price? Where?

I also noticed on one site mentioning about getting True Italy made carbs rebuilt under warranty. Did I misunderstand?

The warranty is for the work he does. I just talked to him. If they are real webers he will work on them. He said someone made a US weber carb that he doesn't work on.
The carbs must say made in Italy on the side. If you need bushings check to see what weber you have. If you have the real ones then maybe they can be rebuilt. If you have white powder in the float bowls or in the passages then no they can't be fixed.
I've been through it with a set I have. The stuff just grows back.
You might think about a upgrade to PMO's.

I talked to several of the shops that rebuild them. It seems costly from any of them. Basically 700 on up, depending on how "little" work youll need.
I wonder what a set of PMO's go for? That may be the way to go.

What other "easy" options are there for a 2.4 thats been wearing a set of webers? besides MFI

Paul, Thank you! I spoke to Jose' moments after the post. Unfortunately their pricing was far different than Mike @ Pierce.
As far as the spring plates go- I would offer the following, with the caveat that, I'm a novice with these cars. I wish I hadn't used the bushings that came with the adjustable spring-plates. I had the factory rubber replacements, in hand, and for some reason decided to install the new spring-plates, as they came from the box. "They squeak" Changing them now would mean re-alignment. I used what I thought was the best lube, but they still squeak, and it's annoying. One last comment. Grady's advise on using compound to prep the bar, and end, was a big help. When you re-adjust, it's nice that the parts come-away easily. Good luck!

Hey Jon, It sounds like you've rebuilt your carbs yourself. If so, where did you get the parts and how did you install the new bushings with correct alignment and such?

Mitch, I got my kits through a shop, who ordered them from SSF. I was fortunate that the throttle shafts, on mine, were fine. I've heard that it runs about $300 per carb. to have the next size larger shafts installed. I believe the stock shaft is 8mm, and the larger one is 8 1/2 or 9mm. I'm not positive on the sizes, but I was told that there is only one oversize.

Jon, you didnt have to rebushing your carbs? how could you determine that you didnt need to? What did the Kit include, and how much was it? How did you set the float boals? I am very interested in hearing what you've done, as I may try attempting the same procedure if my carbs allow.

Mitch - I recently did all this to my 67 911S.. TO do the floats properly.. you have to have the gague that Pelican sells for $30.00,, I think,, it is a life saver unless the rebuilder sets the floats for you.. contact me if you need help.

Jon - I cant believe that Weber USA had higher prices than your other supplier.. they always beat the pants off other suppliers in the US.. With Jets for $3.00 and Emulsion tubes for $5.00.. That is crazy cheap!! I have been buying from them for years..

I believe I was fortunate to have a set of carbs with good shafts and bodies. I couldn't move the ends of the shafts in any direction. If you can grab the end of the throttle shaft between your fingers, and move it up and down, or sideways, then I believe the wear needs attention. The re-builod kits cost around $45 ea., and included all gaskets, accelerator pump diaphrams, o-rings, and new needles and seats. I ordered a float-bowl guage from Richard @ PMO. This came as a kit with additional copper washers to shim the seat, and thus adjust the height. Someone on the forum was kind enough to send me the instructions for adjusting the carbs, once installed. If you do not have this, send me a pm with your address, and I'll send you a copy. Hope this helps.

Cordts, They quoted $6.25 for jets, and 15.91 for the tubes. I was shocked. Sticker-shocked, that is.
