Porsche Crest Nice lokking cooling fan/housing ??

How do i get an original looking surface on my fan ?? it is not in a very bad condition, but i prefer a look close to original..

i have thought about putting in a find of a vibrator with walnut shells, to get a clean surface.

Any suggestion'sī?

i have seen one really nice picture of 'carerra 3.5L ' engine, but can't find the picture now :-)

Regards Roslin

BEAD BLAST WITH A/D GLASS BEAD.

THEN SPRAY WITH EAGLE ONE ETCHING MAG CLEANER.

DRY COMPLETELY, WIPE OFF WHITE RESIDUE WITH A CLEAN TOWEL.

LAST SPRAY WITH KRYLON SATIN CLEAR.

henry, you really should think about making your engines look a bit cleaner. i mean look at the one above. you have clearly just thrown it together. you'll never make a go of your business if you continue like that. just some good words of advice from over the pond.

Sorry to jum in here, but I have never taken my fan off and want to have it chromed. Is it just a matter of taking the bolt off and pulling it off?

Henry, That is a beautiful engine. I was surprised that you would use Krylon, due to the heat. Do you treat valve covers the same way? And that pulley--is it new? Thanks in advance!
Aloha, Jon

Paint doesn't last very long on the fan.

Hi David,

I don't know how to move the fan.. i have just a little problem with mine, it is sitting very hard on the cone! Does anyone know
how to take it of the alternator??

But if you want to have it chromed, then you should drill out the rivets witch is locating the steel center hub - then you have the possibility to do any surface treatment on this part separately.

I think i will do so my self, and get the centerr hub zinc treated as original. To relocate the centerr hub again, i will turn some aluminium screws in 7075 alloy, as shown on the drawing.

In this way, you can do anything you want with your fan, and
keep the centerr original.

What is your method?

As with any paint the key to success is prep.

Although this method does not last for ever (20-50Kmiles), after 30 years of building 911 Porsche engines this method has offered us the best possible original look. (show quality)
Try to remember that even when these fans were new they didn't look good very long.

Whatever you do Henry, looks good..

I wonder how you get the pulley centre so nice?
It looks replated..but I guess its really paint?

Or do you actualy spilit the fan from the centre to plate it?

Thanks again.
David

Replated
We remove the center pulley which allows us to choose the fan ratio we want. Different engines need different fan speeds.

Henry, that is one of the nicest engines I have ever seen. I would love to see a full pic. If I were closer to CA, I would have loved to consult you to do mine. What talent, as you say "try not, do or do not".

Thank you for the kind words.

When it comes to building an engine for you, the distance is no real obstacle.
We build engines for people all over the world.
Shipping can be very reasonable and in some cases the exchange rate is very favorable.
We have sent engines to Japan, UK, Costa Rica, Turkey and at the present time we have a contract to build an engine
and trans for Intermechanic (a well known Canadian car builder).

I haven't tried it, but clear powdercoat might last longer.
