Please Help, New Purchase with Cut Wires in the Engine Compartment
I've purchased from Pelican and used your site as a reference, however, I now need to ask a question.
1982 911SC stock. The car starts decent (alittle rough) and runs good, although there is a warm start issue. As I started tightening all hoses/lines and disconnecting my injectors for a cleaning, I discovered a few sets of wires that have been cut. I spent a fair amount of time on this site trying to identify them and have yet to recieve my book with wiring diagram. I'd appreciate you trying to identify these and let me know if they would in any way affect the running of the engine. Photo 1 are two wires that come through the shroud hole just beneath the airbox and they are directed toward the drivers side. They were in a connector, however, that has broken off. One is brownish and the other is red with a single white stripe. They are both smaller wires. ![]() Photo 2 are two wires coming out of the fuse box in the engine compartment. They are both larger size and one is red with a single white stripe and the other is red with a dashed black line. The length of the wires could reach the wires of photo 1. ![]() Photo 3 are two ground wires just above the fuse box in the engine compartment. They are grounded to the side of the engine compartmet, however, they aren't connected to anything. ![]() YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. |

Pic 1, don't know.
Pic 2 & 3 I don't have an SC so I'm not positive, but those appear to be for the rear window defroster.

Thanks for the reply 125. I can live without the rear window defroster for a while. I am, however, concerned about the two wires in picture 1 since they are part of the engine wiring harness. Can anyone else help?

I figured out picture 1, it goes to the warm-up regulator and supplementary air valve. (important for cold starts). I also suspect that the picutre 2 wires may be the frequency valve. I'll confirm my findings.

If you are worried about the picture #2 wires that end in a nice rubber boot with a rubber cap, that is the test port for the frequency valve. Doesn't hook to anything except a test meter.
And don't worry about the two brown ground wires either. As to the others, I'd work backward: does your WUR have its wires? The Aux air slide over on the other side? The heater blower motor? Is the thermo time switch hooked up? How about the three connectors on the front (hard to get to) side of the motor: the frequency valve, the cold start valve, and the fuel pump interlock? That wiring harness in #1 looks like it has been repaired or altered. I'm struggling to think of just what connector might be in that particular area in stock trim. Might be something the PO put in there for some other purpose. Others will have better ideas for you. Walt |
